“With over 13 years’ financial planning experience, my passion is working with high income earning professionals and business owners to support their ambitions of financial security and success. As a financial adviser, I find the best value I can give to clients is to demonstrate how they can do things differently, in ways they may not have known or thought about, and positively influence their long-term wealth plans.”
My path to become a Financial Planner became clear many years ago.
I grew up in the inner northern suburbs of Melbourne in a family of small business operators, this fuelled my motivation to one day build my own business. It instilled a drive for improvement and success, but more importantly exposed me to the realities of the highs and lows of small business.
I have always had a passion for investing. I would use my pocket money to buy basketball cards and comics which I had hoped would appreciate in value in the future. I cut my teeth in the share market at a young age riding the highs and lows of the dotcom boom. Companies such as Quicktrack, ERG and Sausage Software Solutions are all names that resonate and bring a smile to my face, knowing that my interest was there at such a young age.
At university I initially studied financial analysis because I was intrigued by numbers. As an elective, I attended a tutorial called Investment Planning and Superannuation and that is when my path became clear. I realised that I could really help people to navigate through this complex world and this prompted me to switch my studies to financial planning, which I completed in 2005.
Upon completing my degree, I was immediately offered the opportunity to be part of a wealth management firm in Flemington which I took up without hesitation, allowing me to enter the industry. From there I went to work in Malvern as a Client Service Officer.
After several years, I had managed to work my way up to running the operation. Due to my passion and drive to develop my own business, I felt I was ready to take the chance and go out on my own at the age of 24. I wanted to create a business that I could be proud of. I made sacrifices, faced adversity and pushed through and from here ICG Financial Planning was born.
Today, ICG Financial Planning remains a privately-owned wealth management firm that works exclusively for the comprehensive financial benefit of families and individuals. Our focus is on building personal relationships with our clients that endure over time.
As well as running my own practice, I assist the Financial Planning Association with their Certified Financial Planner (CFP) education program. As part of a panel, I review and assess the proposed examination papers for future CFP exam assessment. I am a regular guest commentator on the Sky News Business Channel as a Financial Adviser and Market Analyst.
I think it is important to give back to the community and I’m part of a select independent advisory board, donating my services to a large multinational church and its dioceses. My role is to bring expertise from a variety of financial disciplines to assist the parishes, primary and secondary schools and aged care facilities in the various ministries of the church. Also, each year I organise a charity golf competition, and participate in the Royal Children’s Hospital annual Run For The Kids as well as the Mother’s Day Classic for breast cancer research.
It is important to note that my principles and values never change: family, honesty, discipline, patience, ambition, attention to detail, pride in our work, and making an impact.
